I Love Red Hook, Post 2 of 2 - Relics of Brooklyn's Streetcar Past

Along the waterfront at the end of Van Brunt St. in Red Hook, Brooklyn sit these two abandoned streetcars, the end result of an attempt by one loyal trolley advocate to revive the long dead transportation method.  As many as 1,800 trolleys once operated in Brooklyn, their ubiquity contributing to the name of the borough's now defunct baseball team, the Brooklyn Dodgers (Brooklynites were known as "trolley-dodgers").

These two were collected by the aforementioned trolley advocate as a means of preserving what he sees as a proud cultural heritage and are on display for all to see.

They look really cool at dusk with the light of sunset beaming through all the rusted, seafoam green parts.

I Love Red Hook, Post 1 of 2 - I can dream, can't I?

Someday, when Erin and I are rich, we will own a corner apartment in the top floor (I would be fine with the entire floor, too) of this re-purposed warehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn:

We'll hoist open our weather-beaten arched windows, smell the salty air, listen to the water crash against the rocky shore, and watch the sun set over views like this:

and this:

"Good night, Lady Liberty," we'll say.
